When I first started at AECOM I was unsure what the work environment would be like, particularly as a female in an engineering world. The most eye-opening experience of my first year really was when I met my co-workers, fellow graduates and leaders, and I realised this was a workplace full of friendly, intelligent people, where you are free to be yourself, challenge yourself, and enjoy your career.

One of the first things I was told as a new starter was to let my leaders know if I found something strange, thought something could be done better or had a project I wanted to pursue. We really are encouraged to grow our careers, create, innovate and lead, and have impressive access to all the resources you could need to do so. If you have a passion for something or a particular interest, there will be people there to guide you. I did worry that working for such a large company I would get lost in the crowd, but it is easy to stand out if you embrace the opportunities you are given. With AECOM’s support, I feel like I can take my career in any direction I choose.
