Pros & Cons

  • The culture and learning environment
  • Learning old and new tech skills from experienced and the best in the IT industry. Learning and upskilling opportunities through mentorship and the buddy system.
  • I am delighted with the exposure I received from this graduate program and the opportunity to quickly pick up new skills. Additionally, I appreciate the flexibility to work from home and the guidance I got from the colleague.
  • The best thing about working at this company is the diversity of work that they do. You get to be involved in a wide variety of work and learn about technology and business from experienced people. People at the company are willing to provide their time to explain their areas of expertise.
  • Working from home Mentorship from senior colleagues on-the job training supportive team Offer a variety of roles; it will help you find what role you’re interested in and that best suits you.
  • Too much out of office/WFH. I would prefer more face-to-face contact.
  • There are not enough people in the department who need it the most due to restricted access and the difficulty of finding people with the right set of skills. Work-life balance is not that great.
  • The worst thing about working at the company is that you might not see some of your colleagues in the office because they are at client sites, conferences, or working from home. However, most of the time, if you go into the office every day, there will be people that you can get to know over time.
  • Aged workforce, more likely to work with older people.
  • Pay could be better.

Corporate Social Responsibility
NEC usually involves volunteering. I went to do food volunteering with my NEC team at a food bank in Victoria. Our team packed the equivalent of 5,700 meals for families in need, which is a great initiative for society.

Culture

Culture
It is a pleasant, welcoming environment. There is no hesitation to approach senior managers. In a hierarchy, everyone is readily available if needed.

Diversity

Diversity
In my department and area, there are not many women—only three, to be precise. The representation of ethnic minorities and the LGBT community is also not very diverse. Recruitment in my department is challenging; there's difficulty both in attracting and retaining individuals due to restrictions and the need to find people with the right set of skills. I haven't received information about promotions, and details regarding childcare and maternity leave are uncertain and not available.

Satisfaction
As a graduate, I have a lot of learning and training opportunities, solving problems with the help of a more experienced senior colleague. Responsible for working on BAU activities by myself and with the help of a more experienced senior colleague when getting stuck and needing help.

I'm very satisfied with my manager and mentor; they treat me well. They make sure the workload isn't too much for me. They provide good feedback on how I can improve, positive praise, and recognition for the work I've done. My mentors are great; they provide me with great insight, knowledge, and guidance to complete my work.

Office Work Environment
Recently changed office space, with plenty of spaces and wide walkways. The location and facilities are impressive as well; there is a nice kitchen with a great view. The dress code is very formal for managers and casual for engineers.

Recruitment
1. Virtual Group Assessment 2. Personal interview. It was very good; I got time to prepare myself, and the interviewers were very calm and were trying to understand your area of interest and align your graduate rotation to that area. They were extremely considerate of your area of interest.

Training

Training
There's on-the-job training and formal training through the NEC Academy. The on-the-job training is great, I think, as I'm learning a lot of skills while also doing the job, although it can be very challenging. I picked up a lot of technical skills, such as VMware, Windows Management, etc., from the on-the-job training. Formal training is available from the NEC academy to get certifications; I've picked up Cyber Security certifications.
