We have an immediate requirement for a Graduate Modelling Engineer or Scientist to join our Melbourne Water infrastructure team. We welcome applications from candidates based in other locations across Australia or New Zealand, pending they are located nearby to a Jacobs Office.

This is an opportunity to join a supportive, dedicated and high-performing team of water professionals to deliver a range of significant projects for both public and private sector clients both locally and nationally. 

As a Water Modelling Engineer or Scientist, working under the guidance of experienced engineers and scientists, you will be responsible for:

  • Using water, sewer and stormwater models to inform the design of remediation to water, sewer and stormwater networks and infrastructure.
  • In case of water network models: the construction of a hydraulic network model from client data including but not limited to:  GIS, Schematics, Pressure, flow, depth time series and discussions with operational teams at our clients.
  • Planning the deployment of sensors to collect vital information to understand the behaviour  of the network under normal operation and during peak periods.
  • Analyses of water network behaviour using data from field based sensors to understand and  calibrate a network model, making it as representative of actual operation as possible.
  • Using the models that you have built and calibrated to determine which assets need investment, what are the most effective solutions to inform asset management, emergency planning or help cities across region prepare for growth and a changing climate.
  • Strategic planning for water infrastructure, encompassing water mains, water pumping stations, water reservoirs, sewer mains, sewage pumping stations, as well as waterways and wetlands.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

This is a unique role that requires applicants to hold the right to work in Australia. Bring your curiosity, collaborative spirit and strong communication skills, and we’ll help you grow, pursue and fulfil what drives you – so we can make big impacts on the world, together.

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • Completed or close to completion of a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science degree.
  • Strong attention to detail and an aptitude for data analysis, including working with GIS and Excel spreadsheets.
  • You should enjoy working with large volumes of data, being capable of managing and analysing the data to understand trends or determine the root cause of observed changes in variables.  A background in data analysis would be beneficial however not mandatory. 
  • A willingness to learn and use various water modelling packages such as InfoWorks WS, EPAnet, WaterGEMS as well as other modelling packages like MUSIC or HECRAS.
  • Ability to work independently or within a wider team when required to deliver the required brief, adapting to each project as required.
  • A willingness to learn and use design software such as AutoCAD and 12D.
