When it comes to solving the biggest global challenges today, we don't believe in doing what's always been done before. We operate on the frontline of international development, working alongside local communities in the developing world to bring sustainable change through socially-beneficial solutions.
As a certified B Corporation, we pride ourselves on being experts in sustainability, international impact, and shaping the most career-ready future leaders. Our Engineering Social Impact Internship is guaranteed to give you unique and practical industry experience and arm you with a range of soft skills and technical skills in leadership, emotional intelligence and communication.
As an intern with Project Everest, you'll be part of a team bringing a social impact project to life and into the hands of a local community overseas. Our projects operate to achieve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and are focused on building sustainable, empowered communities with an emphasis on innovative, human-centred practice.
Projects that you could be working on include:
• Solar Consulting & Energy Infrastructure, which aim to enable off-the-grid, household and business access to reliable and efficient alternative energy through small scale solutions.
• Sustainable Fuel Consulting focuses on developing a clean cook stove made from recycled materials that aims to reduce biomass usage by 50% to improve respiratory health, and resource-efficient cooking.
• AgTech Consulting tackles access to agricultural expertise and increasing economic opportunities and food security through tech enabled agricultural support.
What can you expect from a Project Everest Internship?
• You'll be engaging directly with the local community.
In order to ensure our ventures are providing genuine impact and solving real issues, we work closely with members of the local community running workshops and focus groups, prototyping and feedback sessions, conducting surveys and interviewing, and distributing the socially beneficial products and services.
• Every day is different.
Depending on what stage your venture is at during your internship, you could be doing completely different activities each day. If you're surveying a local community member one day, you could be meeting with a CEO the next. It's definitely not your traditional Engineering internship.
• You will be contributing towards achieving a sustainable impact.
Whilst you won't necessarily be creating social change every day, you'll be part of building and testing a product or service that is needed, sustainable and scalable so that it can be rolled out to community members and change lives.
• It will be challenging
Building a start-up has its fair share of challenges, and when you're working in a developing country with limited resources these are magnified…but that's what makes the wins and subsequent social impact all that much sweeter in the end!
• You'll be building a competitive edge as a future Engineering graduate.
Yes, you'll be applying the skills from your degree to a new context, however you'll be gaining experiences that are beyond the scope of your discipline. Imagine being able to say yes to having experience in the start-up space, international development, cross-cultural communication, social enterprise, lean business principles, and design thinking methodologies... and you haven't even graduated yet. That's one way to differentiate yourself as an Engineering student, that's for sure.
Who are we looking for?
If you are committed to helping shape a positive and sustainable global impact, then we want to hear from you. We are seeking passionate, socially-minded, and hard-working applicants, with the courage to step out of their comfort zone and persistence to thrive in the challenge. Be part of the social change and apply for an internship now.
I felt like I had a lot of responsibility and I was able to set up structures to enact real change. I felt like it was well organised and I was very aware of what was expected of me.
As interns our day to day responsibilities involved contacting stakeholders to organising meetings so that we could conduct our surveys to understand problems financial institutes face when giving out loans to small to medium enterprises. We also used this data to develop a minimal viable product to help combat the issues faced by both the financial institutions and local business owners. However there is a lot of travel involved to the big cities which can be quite draining.
Working within different cultures and alongside people on social impact projects to make a positive difference.

Project Everest Ventures is a civic and social organisation that specialises in sustainable entrepreneurship.
The opportunities to learn and to have on the ground experience that I would not be able to get anywhere else.
The experience you gain as an intern with Project Everest Ventures allows for incredible foundations for professional and personal development. The most valuable part is the development of soft skills that have set me up for life.
The experience and personal growth is massive. Working overseas places you in a different learning environment that compares to no other.
Being able to travel the world and explore new country but do it with a purpose. Attempting to make a difference in some more disadvantaged countries.
The people you meet is the best part about doing an internship with Project Everest Ventures. I am someone who is really passionate about sustainable social and environmental development, especially what we can be doing in regards to action towards climate change. Through Project Everest Ventures I found a community that was also passionate about proactive within this space which has really motivated me to do more with my degree and skills.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of our work and the fact we are located across different regions of Australia, we do have to travel a bit whether it's for internship purposes (depending on which program you do) or if you choose to do additional training.
The hardest thing is that impact takes a long time. I think people want to be able to solve every problem overseas in 4 weeks however in reality it takes for longer than that. At times it did really effect team morale but our team leader was able to get everyone to understand the big picture of why we're doing what we're doing.
A lot of up front commitment, especially in terms of money.
