Nicole Tan

Every fortnight we have a Brand and Marketing Huddle, where the whole marketing department gathers, to spotlight any success, or updates of the marketing team hosting that week.

6.00 AM

My day begins with a shockingly loud alarm to ensure I’m not tempted to press snooze. I climb out of bed and head into the kitchen to prepare my breakfast and get on with my 10-minute stretch routine to wake myself up.

6.40 AM

I clean up in the kitchen and pack my pre-packed lunch in my bag (I bring lunch at least once a week), before heading to the bathroom to shower, and get ready for the day. I have also already organized my outfit for the week ahead, so I’m not spending too much time choosing what to wear.

7.20 AM

I walk to the bus stop, and thankfully score a seat on the relatively empty bus and begin my peaceful commute to work.  I also take this time to run through my schedule for the day and check if anything has been rescheduled.

8.20 AM

I arrive in the city and walk about 5 minutes to the office.

8.45 AM

I get to the office and claim a spot with a standing desk (because they are the best). I then say Hi to those around me and make my way to the kitchen to fill up my drink bottle, where I usually bump into a few grads.

9.00 AM

This is when I check my emails at my desk, following up on emails that may have come through the night before. This usually involves updates on ongoing work or ensuring I’m across all reading materials for my morning meetings. During this time, I also check my list of priorities that I’ve made the day before.

9.30 AM

I have a daily check-in with my team (these are in-person when all of us are in the office). This is a chance for us to catch up on how each of us is going, our top priorities for the day, and any roadblocks we can help each other out with.

9.45 AM

I continue my day, prepping for briefings or working on any active reports I have ongoing.  On a day like today, I’m in between projects, so I have dedicated this time to personal development and goal planning.  Currently, I’m watching a MasterClass from our Learning team, which was focused on well-being and habits you can undertake to be your best self at work, and in your personal life.

10.30 AM

We have a meeting with internal stakeholders to run them through the scope of a project we’re starting, to keep them in the loop, and to take into account the cautions brought up by the product team.

11.00 AM

Every fortnight we have a Brand and Marketing Huddle, where the whole marketing department gathers, to spotlight any success, or updates of the marketing team hosting that week. Today, we shared some exciting development in an app that we’re working on, and some exciting offers planned by the leisure marketing team. We also call out any celebrations such as birthdays, work anniversaries etc. Currently, we have a Marketing Bake-Off, where different teams bring in baked goods, with a theme every fortnight. This week’s theme was ‘Death by Chocolate’, and yes it was as decadent as it sounds. Major Yum.

12.00 PM

Lunchtime! The highlight of my day! For lunch, I catch up with other grads who are in the office for the day. Sometimes we walk out to get some lunch and some step in, and bring it back to the office, to eat altogether. Our frequent haunts have been Aki Sushi, B3 (for baguettes) and Galleria for a plethora of options. This is my favourite time to catch up with how everyone is going in their individual teams and discuss what are our plans for Grad Fridays!

1.00 PM

I continue development planning after lunch, putting together a document setting out my goals and action plans for the next 6 months. This involves a lot of brainstorming about my goals and action plans. I also explore the different types of learning channels we have access to, to enrich our personal development, which can be incorporated into our development plan, helping us nurture soft and technical skills.

2.00 PM

I met up with my managers to discuss the progress of my development plan and got some feedback, which I will find some time during the week to act on.

2.30 PM

When I returned to my desk, I received some emails for new projects I’m starting on.  So I went ahead to read up on the materials, taking notes as I go, and writing down any questions I had, so that I’m prepared for the briefing meetings over the next couple of days.

3.30 PM

During this time I work on a campaign report pack with the data that I received sometime in the afternoon. I pull the data from what I have received from the SEM team, and our paid media agency, and summarise the information to present to our internal stakeholders. This includes our performance results, examples of creative assets used, and learnings & recommendations we’ve gathered.

5.00 PM

Before I know it, it was time to head home! As part of my wind-down process at work, I jot down what are my priorities for the next day, so that when I’m back in the office in the morning, I have a guide on what my priorities are for tomorrow. I then walk to the bus stop for my commute home, looking forward to listening to my audiobook, working out, and spending time with my family in the evening.
