What do our Graduate Transportation Engineers do? 

As our Graduate Transportation Engineer in Nelson, you will contribute to a variety of local and national transportation projects for a diverse range of clients.  

Here in the sunshine capital of New Zealand, we’ve got it good. We’re surrounded by beaches, mountains, and national parks. We’re famous for craft beers and local wines. There’s plenty of tramping, camping and sports for every outdoor enthusiast. Yet there’s always work to be done to maintain that easy lifestyle. 

Te Tau Ihu (Top of the South) is experiencing significant investment in the region’s transportation network.  Stantec are working with clients to deliver improvements to all users, from pedestrians to inter regional connections.   

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a variety of projects in traffic engineering, transport safety reviews, business cases for investment decision making, transport engineering designs and site supervision.  You will get involved in these projects from the initial investigation right through to completion of construction.  

Here are some examples of typical tasks: 

  • Evaluating data sets of information and provide reports of key findings and results.
  • Research solutions to help develop transportation solutions
  • Site visits for investigations and construction works supervision.
  • Analysing traffic flows and developing macro simulations
  • Developing understanding of geometric design and use of software such as 12D and OpenRoad.
  • Introduction to Autodesk software such as AutoCAD 2D and Civil 3D to analyse and assist with design drawings.
  • Creating technical drawings for transportation designs.

What you will bring

You will have a Qualification in Civil Engineering, Engineering Science, Mathematics or Physics with a passion for transportation and infrastructure design. 

To be eligible to apply you must: 

  • Be a recent graduate or due to complete your studies in 2024.
  • Have a full clean current driving licence.
  • Working Rights: Student Visa (convertible to post study open work visa), Permanent Resident, Citizen.
