I’m part of an engineering design team working on armoured military vehicles. I have to work with various stakeholders in the project, including electronics engineers, senior mechanical engineers within the design team, as well as the manufacturer.

As a software integration engineer, my job revolves around connecting the different facets of our solution to create a streamlined service that can then be incorporated into the Defence network.

I like my job because I have a lot of agency in regards to how I perform a task, and there is a diverse mixture of different skills, allowing a lot of room to learn and grow as a developer.

There’s no better feeling than being given a complicated task and you can go away, work on it, and then come back with a working model that passes all the tests. I always liken it to solving puzzles, every task has a solution and my role is to simply find it.

As a hardware engineer, I’m responsible for maintaining and upgrading the mechanical and electrical systems of the radar.

I build software interfaces for equipment that will be mounted on the Royal Australian Navy’s new Offshore Patrol Vessels.
