What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
Bonuses are mean, however I do a lot of work for my salary
Graduate, Auckland
They pay is decent, and you do get an increase each year. The bonus are good when the branch performs well.
Graduate, Auckland
Pay is good and understandable for what is it. However, bonuses are amazing! Bonuses are based on branch performance as well as individual performance. This is absolutely the best part.

Great

Great starting salary, depending on how you move your salary changes in accordance with that. There are good discretionary bonuses.

Under pay for my role - more responsibility from last role but still the same pay

Bonus is great - if your branch hits their profit target 10% of the profit gets split equally amongst all the employees that have been there more than a year . Also if your branch is making money you get a weeks additional pay in December as a Christmas bonus.

Enjoy the concept of the branch bonus system. Salary could use some work?
Graduate, Palmerston North
Salary could be better for the amount of hours worked. Definitely work hard for it. Being at a bigger branch we don't get as big of a bonus as some of the other smaller branchs. But the bonsus is still better than nothing.

Pay is well below average. Bonuses are good.

My pay has always been slightly behind what I would like to be making and there doesn't seem to be much opportunity to review these
Graduate, Christchurch
Happy with my pay and bonus, always happy with more due to the hours and effort I put in to this job, but I am lucky I love it so money is not my biggest motivator.
Graduate, Auckland
The bonuses are awesome and are something we don't always expect to come through as times are tough! Each branch is different so this can be hard also depending on where you are working. Two bonuses a year are very exciting! It is hard being a graduate as we are not rewarded in pay compared to those non-graduates and reflective of graduates progressing in pay to keep us competitive in the market and wanting to stay working at MF. We want to keep working here because of the culture but we also need to look at what we are doing with our house purchases, families, future planning etc. In terms of career progression these are managed at a yearly pay review, rather than on promotion of a new career progression e.g. Customer services to Account Manager, where you are taking on more responsibility so this can be hard. These pay reviews are also very fair so we appreciate these with our BM.

Pay is competitive, but we do work long hours! Bonuses are great - and are only given if the branch performs so works as a great motivator for the team.
Graduate, Auckland
Pay does tend to be on the lower end, bonuses are not guaranteed and are dependent on branch performance

What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
Car
Graduate, Auckland
Company car, get free tickets to rugby games and concerts (if you are lucky), dinners when the team goes out
Graduate, Auckland
Obviously working with a freight company you can get free freight. Have used this a few times to move personal items around the country. Meal scheme is also great to have heavily subsidised lunches every day. I also have a work car and work phone, which is great. There are plently of other small perks such as hot cross buns, Christmas hams and tickets to just name a few.
Graduate, Christchurch
Discounted lunches is about as much as I know. Unless you move up the ladder then its company car, fuel card.
Graduate, Auckland
Subsidized lunch schemes, these are great! Free tickets. If you move, Mainfreight moves your freight for free. Subsidized health insurance. Parental leave - top up.

Most unusual perks I think would be the outside of work activities - branch Christmas party, Kids' Christmas party, Touch tournament, indoor netball tournament. These days all build culture and really knit the team together. They are so much fun and a huge perk!
