Pros & Cons

  • Every day is a new challenge and always something different. With freight, everything is ever-changing and constant problem solving which makes every day fun!
  • The team around us are all like family and we have each other's back, it is a pretty special company and they look after you! There are lots of awesome opportunities out there for everyone. Everyone has the 'Bleeding blue' feel in their day-to-day work.
  • The culture. I'm trusted with responsibility, I can make decisions and I'm encouraged to take ownership.
  • The people/the culture! It is incredible how a global company can still feel like a family and I think this is what makes it so special.
  • The people & culture. Family vibes & everyone's willing to help. The autonomy of the job.
  • The long hours can be tiring at times (but to be honest I don't know how I'd get it all done in less time).
  • Sometimes the long days (but it's give and take so not a big deal).
  • I'm nitpicking, sometimes the hours can be long, that's the nature of the work that we do, the customers need their freight, so we need to make that happen so the wider community have access to what they need.
  • The long days. 10-hour days can be rough. But you get used to them quickly.
  • Sometimes the hours can be rough.

We are the major sponsor for Books in Homes, there is a scholarship fund and every branch commits to having a day’s community involvement each year. There is very much an element of giving back to your community. Going to hand out the books at a Bbooks in Hhomes assembly was an incredible experience I won’t forget.

Culture

Culture
No job descriptions allow for a fairly loose and flexible structure. The culture is amazing - everyone is very welcoming and inclusive. Multiple annual events are organised throughout the year outside of work hours for the team to enjoy - kids' Christmas party, Round the Bays, and Touch Tournament (just to name a few). During work hours, it is a complete team environment - everyone is valued valued, and we all work together to achieve the best we can as a branch. Lots of opportunities to socialise with 'colleagues' to the point where they become genuine friends.

We have a very diverse workforce, There is a great maternity leave policy. As a woman at Mainfreight Ii feel opportunities are equal there were some things Ii couldn't physically lift in my time on the floor and the boys would help me but other than that it's fair play.

The interview process was really good quite open chats and honest about what was expected, they didn’t sugarcoat what your responsibilities are. Not many assessments and more conversations. i.e.i.e., will you fit into our team? being a good person is valued here, if you can be trusted will go a long way.

Pay is good and understandable for what is it. However, bonuses are amazing! Bonuses are based on branch performance as well as individual performance. This is absolutely the best part.

We do 10 hour10-hour days. I love what I do, so 10 hour10-hour days fly by fast. We have good give and take, you never need to take leave if you have an appointment, the business understands that these things are important, and they want you to feel like they value you.

We do heaps we have electric trucks even linehaul and electric forks these are powered by solar farms on the depot roofs. We use greywater from the roof also for the toilets and truck wash. And there are really exciting things happening in the emissions reporting space so we can provide our customer with information to make more sustainable options in their supply chains.
