Why did you apply to Westpac Group for a graduate program?

I applied for the Westpac Group Graduate program because I believed that it would provide me with an opportunity for mentorship and training from some of the best business leaders in the country, which is an invaluable resource for someone who is just starting their career.

Can you describe the rotations you experienced as part of the Risk graduate program?

Across 12 months I experienced three rotations. My first rotation was in Fraud Analytics, where we developed methods to detect and prevent financial crimes such as ID takeovers and stolen cards. During my first rotation, I was given the task of creating a way to alert the bank of fraudulent logins using global geolocation data from mobile logins. As such, I learned programming languages like Python and HTML to create an interactive mapping tool that not only flags suspicious logins, but also visualises where and when these fraudulent logins occurred – which assists the frontline teams with protecting customers.

My second rotation was in Retail Credit Risk modelling, where we developed a model that measures the likelihood of customers not being able to meet their loan repayments.

And my final rotation was in Data Risk, where we created a data quality tool that measures the reliability of data at the bank.
